Vase Fructus Papaver

The Vase Fructus Papaver by Klatt Objects is a porcelain poppy pod vase modelled on the seed head of the papaver. Its ribbed, hand-formed body swells into a rounded belly and narrows to a small crown of pointed petals at the top, exactly as a dried poppy capsule does in late summer. Supplied in two shapes, assorted: one taller and pear-like, the other low and full.

Made of fine porcelain in a soft chalky white, the surface keeps the subtle dents and vertical seams of the modelling, so daylight collects along the ridges and settles into shadow between them. Standing on tiny stub feet, each vessel tilts slightly, giving a still life a pleasing sense of movement. Group both shapes together on a mantelpiece, a bedside table or an entrance console, or set the white porcelain vases against dark walls and linen for a wabi-sabi, botanical mood. They also make quiet Easter gifts, holding a single dried stem or nothing at all.
