Lamp shade Mela 80

The Mela 80 is a large cream paper pendant lamp shade from Globen Lighting, designed by Mikael Holvik. Its soft, organic shape is inspired by the silhouette of an apple core: two generously rounded, ribbed halves separated by a slim open waist that lets light escape sideways as well as down. Every shade is unique, with a naturally shifting, slightly irregular outline.

The finely pleated paper carries visible creases and seams that catch daylight in delicate horizontal lines, while at night the cream coloured paper diffuses a warm, gentle glow for an inviting atmosphere. At 80 cm wide it works as a sculptural statement above a dining table, in a hallway or over a lounge seating group, and suits japandi, wabi-sabi and calm Scandinavian interiors — as seen here against deep olive walls with rattan and velvet.

Assemble the shade with the included metal bracket: unfold it carefully on a flat surface, attach the bracket to the bottom fittings, then gently bend it while lifting the shade so the bracket can be secured into the top fittings. Paper is fragile, so handle with care to preserve its shape.
